HOW TO STOP SPAM

Despite installing Mailwasher Pro a month ago I have continued to get approx. 30 spam emails per day. Yesterday I cancelled ALL my Techrepublic newsletters, and guess what, this morning I have only 1 (yes 1) spam in my mailbox. I wonder why?
