how to use a USB hard disk with files written from XP with a linux distro

Hi all,

I am new to new Linux.

I have a USB hard disk (seagate 160 GB).

I use it with XP and have some important files ( written with an NTFS format) which i would like to use in an Ubuntu distro.

Can this be done? What is the way around?
