How would you restore “Internet Explorer icon and Show Desktop icon”?

In Windows XP, my “Blue e and Show Desktop icon” have dsisappeared from the Quick Launch toolbar.I liked seeing them there, and I always clicked on the “blue e” to access the Internet and my Home page.

As you can tell I am not a computer tech, just a little lady of 74 trying to learn steps or procedures of how to fix things. I may have deleted them accidently. Both “icons” are on my destop, but I would like them to be in the QLB next to the Start button as they have always been. I have tried the “drag & drop” method but they go right back to the desktop.

Any information would be deeply appreciated.
