HP DV9000 Blank LCD

I have an HP DV9000 with a blank screen. Of course not the model # listed for the recall. After many calls, I lost the battle to get mine added. Anyway, I want to fix it myself. If I hook the laptop up to an external monitor, it works fine so I assume it is just the LCD that is bad. I plan to buy one on ebay, it’s only a few screws. However, I don’t want to buy a new screen only to have it break again. Does anyone know what the root cause is to this problem?
