HP EliteBook 6930p Dim Display issue

I have a EliteBook 6930p at first power up the display is nice and bright, once the notebook suspends or is closed and suspends (checked both ways) the screen goes very dim not very easy to see at all. Its used primarily for a projector but looking to solve this issue. fn+f9 does nothing what soever. Even tried fn+f10 which enables/disable the ambient light detection to no avail. Im not sure what else to look at, as far as grphx it has the intel family chipset 4 series express, running windows xp sp3. Any suggestions, ideas, previous issues would be great..
