I am working on a HP computer that will not boot Windows on a cold start. It will start in the Safe Mode, and when restarted from the safe mode, boot normally, and run without problems.
I have dome everything that HP suggested, except a non-destructive system recovery. I have read that this can cause a loss of data–I know that third-party software will have to be installed.
I have rewritten the boot.ini, and tried to rebuild the MBR using the HP recovery CD. The rebuild of the MBR does not work.
I can repair these problems on other computers that run a retail version of XP, but apparently HP has a propriety version.
Any suggestions other than the non-destructive recovery? The machine needs to be online.
