hp system recovery

my customer contacted me about a problem she had with her hp laptop. it had problems booting, she pressed f10 (she thinks) and it started hp system recovery which seems to have restored the system to a previous state, some applications she installed are still on the machine, including her userid but the documents in her my documents folder are missing. I never used this before, does anyone know how to restore the files from the my documents folder?
