Hyperlinks gone mad

Ihave been unable to open documents that have hyperlinks – File error: data may have been lost get displayed.

I am also unable to insert hyperlinks whether using Excel, Word etc.

I don’y think that the problem lies with Office 2000, maybe I amwrong, but my best guess would be in the operating system which I am using Windows 98
