IBM 390X Password

by dspyder48 . Updated 23 years, 11 months ago

I received a 390X Type 2626 MOU, that had been dropped and needs a new keyboard. I do not have a problem replacing the keyboard.

However, after loading Windows 98 on this computer I wanted to update the bios from ISB038WW to a later version. When he tried to access the bios it was passworded and the previous user is no longer available to supply the password. I tried removing all power and the bios battery for 20 minutes and longer, and this led to what appeared to be the same password request icon, a floppy disk, on boot-up, but it seemed to be in a little different position on the screen and the computer will not boot at all now.

The only motherboard switch found was a four position switch, and indicated on the motherboard were settings for the type keyboard connected to the computer. These settings were at J2 and J3. Nothing indicated the proper settings for J1 or J4.

I do not have the original manual and don’t know if that would give the needed information. Any help to resolve this problem so I may use this computer? Any assistance given will be greatly appreciated.
