Importing data from Excel to MS Project

Greetings,

Does anyone know how to import a set of data from Excel into Project? I want to distribute an Excel Spreadsheet to a team to fill in start and end dates for our company’s projects, and then import those dates directly into MS Project, so that the Gant chart displays the durations. My head is spinning with XML, CSV etc. I would be very grateful for a definitive answer!
