Importing Data into MS Project

Does any one know if there are some scripts out there that I can use to import data into MS project? (I know the import function that is built in Project, but this is insufficient for my need).

What I need is to be able to import the actual hours from another application (in Excel or text file), and tie that into the tasks within Project by the resource name and some unique task ID.
