Installation issues

Whenever attempting to install or update any software on my laptop a notice comes up that says, “Windows cannot access the specified device, path, or file. You may not have the appropriate permissions to access the item.”. Also, whenever attempting to open specific programs such as spider solitaire, a notice comes up saying the same thing, so, at the moment, essentially the only programs I can access are internet explorer and itunes.
