Installation of Linux

Hi
I have PC with Following conf
Asus A8N-VM-UAYGZ motherboard
AMD athelon 64 processer 1.8 mhz
1 gb Ram
SATA HDD Windows XP installed.

I had created a non-active partition of 14 MB thru partition manager. Also I had downloaded sata drivers and created a FDD for loading the drivers..
after following the process still it doesn’t recognise HDD.

Pl advice or give clean steps for installation
