installing gzip under solaris 7

can any one help sounds like a simple problem but for starteres instaling gzip with pkgadd dosent work returns an error of bad argument then i tried to copile the version myself problem there is half way through i need to use the make command but mysystem dosent have it installed and i need gzip to uncompress it any other help or solution would be greatly appreciated.
