installing qpopper on linux 7

I’m trying to install qpopper on linux 7. I have a .gz file from qualcom’s site. I went through the steps up to make install.. but how do i know whether qpopper was installed properly.. I did the modifications in xinetd.con too. when i telnet to localhost 110 it says
Escape character is ‘^]’.
Connection closed by foreign host..

please help..
