The need for high-performance servers is directly proportional to the need for better, faster, more dependable enterprise applications. However, performance also means increased power consumption, more audible noise output, and the need for dynamic thermal management. At IDF Fall 2004, Intel revealed its plans for producing high-performance chips – Thermal Management 2 and Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology.
According to Intel, both of these new technologies will improve Pentium 4 performance while reducing power draw and heat, which will also reduce fan noise.
