I’ve installed 100’s of HP printers in the past and have never had the opportunity to witness this particular problem. NT 4.0 SP6a is installed on the server, as is HP’s Jet Admin 2.4. Using the “Add printer wizard” I’m adding several HP 4’s and 5’s with Win 95 alternate drivers. The installations on the server goes just fine and the printers appear and are available, as they should. When installing the 4’s or 5’s on a workstation running NT I have no problem. However, when I try to install either the 4 or the 5 on a Windows 95 or 98 machine using the “Add Printer Wizard” the client seem to download the drivers correctly but at the very end of the install I get an error message that tells me (don’t have the entire message in front of me) “…the driver (HPBXLA.DRV) did not load.” Then it goes on to tell me the printer could not be added and that the driver or INF file may be corrupt, please restart Windows and try again.
I’ve downloaded the latest drivers from HP so they are all fresh copies.
I’ve looked through Technet, gone to HP’s site and the Microsoft site looking for an answer to no avail. I’m hoping someone here has had a similar problem and has found the cause.
