Internet Email Problem

by mhiggins . Updated 25 years, 8 months ago

I am running NT Server 4.0 on the server and Windows 98 and MS Office 97 on a specific workstation. When working in MS Outlook on this above mentioned computer, the following messages keeps popping up:

INTERNET EMAIL:
Some messages could not be retrieved from the server. This usually happens when the connection to the server is lost due to server or network problems. If the problem continues contact your administrator.

When sending an email from this machine, and it appears that the email is remaining in the outbox and not being sent. I went to the machine the email was sent to and the email arrived although it was still remaining in the outbox of the originating workstation. All network connections are good. I thought it may have been the modem, but again, there is a net work connection and email is sending although it appears to still be in the outbox. I reinstalled Outlook 97 and selected to install any missing files, this did not work. No emails are being received by this workstation. I don’t know what else to try. Have any advice?
