Introducing a web cam

I’ve been asked by my boss to investigate the possibility of installing a web cam on to our organisation’s web site.

Could any give me a few pointers as to where is the best place to look for information on the subject? Or can anyone who has implemented a web cam give any advice as to the dos and do nots of the project?
