Inventory service pack level on machines

Does anyone know a good, or decent way to inventory the OS and SP level on machines on the LAN. I can look in the AD but I do not know a way to query or pull reports off of this information. Any idea, or have skipped a simple way of doing so, I know it can be done I just don’t yet.
