IPOD

Hey,
Does anyone know why your ipod will have songs on it that you can only access and play, only when your ipod is plug up to a comp. with WMP. Where are all those old songs I downloaded over the years stay. Why don’t they show up on my ipod. My ipod has been reset 20times but yet those songs remain stored on the device.
