is tech.exp must for SAP fi/co consultan

hi all

i’m an sap fi/co consultant with a couple of projects and anexposure to some components mySAP.com. but still not clear if technical expertise in any areas like abap, bapi, ale etc is a prerequisite for furtering my career.

i wld really be happy and appreciative on anyrelevant insights in to this.
