is this IT thing for real?

OK, guys, here I go, as honest as I can be. I’ve have had my suspicions about the “shortage of IT professionals” for some time, but now, even more so. I’m a recent college grad, and have become disillusioned with making a career out of IT. I didwhat I was told to do—an internship, polished communication skills (when necessary), and still there seems to be no end in sight in this job search. Please tell me why I constantly see commercials for IT trainings schools and boot camps claiming that there exists thousands of IT jobs, yet every honest survey shows that not only are companies not actively recruiting people but they are actually firing them? I know I left a ton of details out, but could someone with some years of experience in this business please explain to me why I feel like I’m at a meat market whenever I go on an interview? Is everyone lying to us? Does this foreign worker thing have anything to do with it? Did corporation conspire to flood the media with misinformation so they could saturate the market with talent and lower salaries? Is this the way the rest of our lives in this modern free market economy are going to be? I can’t imagine living like this for another 40 years. Maybe I should teach.
