IT Project Plus Versus PMP

I am interested in taking up a project management course and getting certified either for PMP or IT Project +.

While I am aware that PMP carries a lot of recognition, I am also convinced that IT Project+ is more suited than PMP for IT Industry (by reading the comparison on web).

Can someone throw some light on:
1) Benefits of IT Project + vis-a-vis PMP?
2) Eventually I would like to leverage my certification for employment purposes as well. Although it is offered by COMPTIA (An organization with 8000+ members) is the certificate widely accepted in the IT recruiting industry?
