I’ve never seen this before…

I’m new to tech republic and I’m having an interesting issue with WINXP. I purchased an Emachines computer and stripped it (wiped the hardrive) so that I could install WIN2K, which I prefer to work with. As the computer was designed to run with WINXP, this proved to cause problems, and I’ve reinstalled XP.
My problem is that my CD ROM is malfunctioning. When I insert a disk, the computer will read it, display the volume label at the top of the window, but it will not display any of the files on the disk. I’ve tried using several disks with the same results.
If anyone knows what is causing this and/or how it can be fixed, please let me know.
