Joining XP to domain

by jneag . Updated 22 years, 8 months ago

Having a problem in gettting a particular XP system to join a domain. Let me start off by saying that I’ve joined several systems this way and it’s always worked before, so who knows why this is happening.

I’m going through My Computer properties, Computer Name tab, and selecting the Change button. In the member of section I’m selecting Domain and entering the domain name. I’ve tried several different Computer names, all of which don’t produce a different outcome.

When clicking OK I receive the following error titled “Computer Name Changes”.

A domain contorller for the domain **** could not be contacted.

Ensure that the domain name is typed correctly.

If the name is correct, click Deatils for troubleshooting information.

Like I said, no matter what name I give this computer, it refuses to join the domain. The system is currently apart of a workgroup with the same name as the domain. I’ve tried removing it from the workgroup and then joining the domain, but that doesn’t work either. I am assigned an IP, as well as can release/renew the IP and can successfully ping the PDC.

Any ideas?
