After dallying with Knoppix 3.4 in CD form, I returned to it after downloading Knoppix 5.0 in CD form. Tried it, was MOST impressed.
I noticed they now have an “uber-install” on DVD for the same version, 4 Gbs of Linux goodness. When I’ve tried to acquire it however I’ve run into issues, and I am certain Jaqui could probably steer me straight in a pico-second.
When I browse to the ISO location (tried it 2 X, I’m a “fast” learner) and select the file, it says 4 Gb, but when the download starts suddenly the size becomes 67 Mb. I was on my sisters breakneck speed DSL connection. After a whirlwind 176 minute download I confirmed the file came down and properties say 67 Mb.
So I go … WTF ??? If I waited 176 minutes the download should be bigger than 67 Mb, and I’d heard that the Distro is greatly compressed for use on the fly.
I know the Knoppix crowd are Disk Gods, but I cannot imagine compressing 4 + Gb of Linux wholesomeness into a 67 Mb file… and the file doesn’t look like a self extracting .exe that whips you back to the original location to complete the download so I have no clue what I’m overlooking…
any ideas anyone ??
