I use Mandrake 9.0 on my workstation. I have ICQ, Yahoo and MSN IM accounts, so I was very interested when I saw the article recommending Kopete as THE IM for KDE / Linux.
Found the home page, found a distribution for my varient of Linux so I selected 0.6.1a, got everything downloaded and installed. Kopete was easy to configure and very colourful on my desktop. I especially liked the SAMBA POP-UP Window, that adds local messagig to my LAN.
It just doesn’t work with Yahoo (yet).
The source file is availble for the 0.6.2 version. It claims to rsolve a number of issues, but not connectivity to Yahoo.
Connectivity to Yahoo is a bigie for me – some of my clients use Yahoo to talk to me. It is back to AYTTM (Are You Talking To Me)for the moment. That said I will be watching for Yahoo connectivity and will certainly try it again when I see that.
If I did not use Yahoo – or had a requirement for internal messaging on my LAN … Kopete would have won.
