LAN card problem

When I configure my NIC and reboot my freeBSD box, kernel gives me a message like ed1: device timeout. What thoes it means?
And when I ping, my local IP (192.168.0.101) it’s OK, but if I ping other local IP then it gives me /kernel: ed1: device timeout and
Host is down.
