Laptop Spill Causes “Blank” Screen With Lines. What Can I Do?

by rob . Updated 18 years, 12 months ago

We recently spilled wine on a laptop. We flipped it upside down and after a while had the sense to shut it off. When it was upside down, the monitor was open and hanging over the edge of the table. On power up, everything seems to work except the monitor is messed up. It starts off a bluish color with a blotch (seemingly “inside”) in the upper left corner and then slowly turns to mostly black everywhere with a few vertical white lines. We have almost totally dis-assembled and cleaned the laptop and put it back together, but the screen is the same. We stopped short of totally removing the keyboard and other panels inside and I didn’t see where the ribbon cable connects to the mother board. It is a relatively new computer and would be worth fixing (If I did it). I am reasonably adept at handling and assembling electronic components. I should also mention that the computer seems to function fine and works with an external monitor. Does anyone have any suggestions on where I should start? Thanks in advance.
