Learning Linux

I’m camingoutfrom windows based network. now I intend to switch to linux. but I don’t have any programing skill as I heard I need it in order to start linux is that true?

and I was wondering which version of linux should I start from. or where tostart? I’m having a copy of Redhat 7.2.
