Linux Installation

by petadove . Updated 22 years, 10 months ago

I have been trying for at least 2 weeks to install Red Hat Linux 8 on an AMD computer without success. After I insert the CD in the drive, the boot process starts ok but then it comes to a halt at – ESR value after enabling vector 00000002.

This first happened around 12AM one night and so, because I was unsure of the problem, I went to bed and left it running hoping to get up in the morning and find that it had proceeded beyond that point. Needless to say, it was still there when I got up. I tried again and the same thing happened at least 5 times. I don’t know what is happening.

I found a site that said something about a patch http://www.securityorg.net/docs/apic.html; however, I don’t understand how to proceed to fix the problem.

Can someone please help me.
