We are to move office and the setup at the moment is 60 users all on a client / server setup over a 100 meg LAN. When we move we would prefer to just unplug the boxes and plug in at the new site. Simple move , low WAN link comms costs. Simplistic setup. However , our supporting outfit wants us to move the servers to their network and for us to Terminal Server in. This means a possible issue with support and additional comms costs. On top of this , it has been expressed that if any software platforms do not work on TS then the ‘pipes’ would be upgraded till the ‘pipe’ is big enough to sustain the work. We would have two times the size of pipe for reslience at our cost. So they take the servers then give us the bill for the comms costs.
Myconcern is .. Why?? The remote site offers no DR. Takes away dependancy , creates additional charges to the business , so where does TS become a better solution than a local LAN. We have no other reason than e-mail for connection to the other business units.
Our WAN link is for external mail and Internet access ( 256k ). So why pay $100,000 rather than $10,000. This is why I am perplexed.
There is a requirement for an urgent answer.
