Low Level formatt and Harddrive test

I am running a linux console, and i was wondering if anyone happens to know the best way to mount ntfs volumes to it and test the hard discs integrity. also how to mount them and do a low level formatt… Im sure there are programs to do this out there i just havent heard or them. Thanks
