Mac OS 10.5.5 Domain Setup

I am trying to join a Mac computer to a windows domain. The domain controller is running NT4.0 with SP6a. Is it possible to have the Mac computer to join the domain without Active Directory installed on the domain controller? Yes the plans are to upgrade to Windows Active Directory in the future. Any procedure will be helpful.
