Media PC setup

As a general question, is it possible to set up a PC on the same LAN connection to use another PC? So say you have a house. You have it all wired up and you have 2 PC’s on the same sever. You are on 2nd floor with your PC and the second PC is in the basement running a movie. Can you accesses the the second PC from the upstairs one and take a few screen shots which are then saved to the upstairs PC without installing any additional software? Good question huh?
