Microsoft MapPoint

I just recently purchased MS MapPoint, and it claims to allow for overlaying territories to exist; however, when I import the source file with multiple overlaying territories, an error message appears saying that redundant geographic areas cannot co-exist in a single map. Please advise on whether or not MapPoint does allow overlaying territories to exist, and if so, how.
