Hello,
I’m having some modem problems.
First, I just got an old machine with windows 98 on it. I have, I think, all the CDs for it. It had a Motorola sm56 modem that worked when I tested it. I’m visually impaired, and my screen reading software can only run on 2000 or xp. I did some research and found out the SM56 modem has drivers for XP. The problem is that when I installed xp, AutoDetect didn’t detect the modem. It hasn’t after several restarts. The drivers on the CD can’t find the hardware either. Can anyone suggest some ways of fixing it?
My second problem, and the reason the first one came up, is that my Acer computer’s modem, or something, has decided to randomly stop working. It connects fine, but after that about 85 percent of the time the thing won’t connect to the internet. I’m running AOL, by the way. So the modem will dial, connect and everything looks good. But none of the AOL windows will pop up, and IE, Firefox and Thunderbird say there’s no connection. When the computer connects, it’ll drop for a few minutes then come back, without actually disconnecting the modem. Also, sometimes the connection is extremely slow, even for my dial-up.
If anyone can please shed some light on these extremely annoying problems, I’d appreciate it.
I can’t wait till we get wireless highspeed!
Thanks
