Monitor to docking station doesn’t turn on

The monitor won’t turn on when the docking station is turned on. The keyboard, mouse, and laptop are fine. In order to get the monitor on, you have to open the laptop monitor hit FN-7 and set the presentation setting to LCD and External Monitor. It used to work at one time, so I think a setting changed. I just don’t know what.
