More info on IIS 4

I saw an answer to a question that stated that NT4 SP6a and IIS 4 cannot co-exist. I am hoping that the author of that post could elaborate. I am running an intranet site with SP6a and IIS 4 but have had some odd behavior from it at times. Can you tell me what one can expect when running with this configuration?
