Mounting Floppy drive

I have used Mandrake 7.2 and now Mandrake 8 (Full version not Beta)When I attempt to access the floppy on both versions I get an error saying I don’t have permission to access. Even when I log in as root. I have gone into etc/fstab and all looks ok there. I have talked to a UNIX guru at work and he thought that supermount was corrupt, so I formatted and installed Mandrake 8 but the same thing happens. Any suggestions??
