Mouse problem in WORD 2007

My mouse in WORD 2007 works fine up on the toolbars and even page forward and back arrows, but it won’t work in the document itself (except for the scroll wheel) and it won’t work on the slide bar along the right hand side. Any idea what the problem might be?
