MSProjct Task Update Not Changing Date ?

I’m using MSProject 2000. When I update a task with % complete, it doesn’t move the scheduled finish date to reflect the % work remaining from date reporting, e.g. 2 days work remaining should have a date at least 2 days from today. Must I manually adjust the scheduled duration to be shorter overall ?Also, if the scheduled finish is earlier than today, & I report a % work remaining, it doesn’t move the scheduled finish out to later than today, which is what realistically will happen. What am I missing ? Expecting “too much” from MSP ?
