Must have UNIX Experience!?

Why are employers always looking for personnel with UNIX experience. For instance, a student just graduated with BSCIS and they really don’t have much more than lab time experience with UNIX. What is wrong with hiring that person and training themas they go along to that companies specific use of UNIX?
