An American newscast the other day was takling about how a student’s father had complained about the Pledge of Allegiance should be dropped from the schools due to referencing GOD.
I’m not going to get into some political debate over American heritage but why DROP the Pledge instead of modifying it?
Scouts Canada, I don’t know about other countries modified their Cub Promise from “I will do my duty to GOD and the Queen” to “I will do my duty to MY god and the Queen”.
The student noted was born into an athiest family, whether or not it is his choice or his parents I dno’t know but I think it is fair to say that in MOST cases religion or lack of is usally inherited from the parents.
Do you feel the pledge should be modified or simply dropped from the classrooms? Does it still serve a purpose in making Americans Patriotic towards their country or is it just something that was never considered?
Instead of dropping it completely and causing a Nationwide stir, don’t you think that modifying it to say MY god instead of GOD would be more acceptable by those who still believe in the Pledge of Allegiance?
I know that I often refer to American politics but that is merely because we RARELY hear any Canadian politics on the news.
