My USB drives have dissapeared, why?

I’m running a laptop, yes is has usb 2.0 and until just last week, it worked fine.
My computer is not over clocked, and my warenty is up. I just updated, tried both the ports, 4 different usb devices, nothing.
In specific, the “safely remove hardware icon comes up, but when I go into Mycomputer, there is no “driver F:” (what always comes up on this thing) icon.
If you have any idea/ help on whatever this is, please tell me
