.NET?

I am at a juncture here. I have a large-ish pile of Win98 boxes that are soon to be upgraded. For the moment, we will be standardizing our desktops on Win2k.

In planning out future upgrades, though, I’ve been looking at .NET and I cannot think of even one good reason to adopt this. OTH, some very large companies seem to have jumped on this particular bandwagon. This, generally, suggests to me that maybe they know something that I don’t.

Does anyone else believe that MS will shoot themselves in the foot if they make EVERYTHING .NET’ed?
