Network Adaptors will not work, uninstall

by odiedoodaday . Updated 17 years, 1 month ago

I am running a Gateway Pentium 4 Desktop that is on Windows XP home edition wtih SP2 installed. This computer has been connected to the internet. Then I uninstalled a bunch of unused program and lost the internet connection. I also may have deleted something. The computer is connected to the internet thru a LINK SYS cable internet router and other computers are using it successfully so I know it is not the internet connection.

Anyways now – when I start the computer I get the follwoing message.

“The TCP/IP network transport is not installed”

When I go into DEVICE MANAGER and open NETWORK ADAPTERS – all of the adapters have yellow exclamation points including:

1394 Net Adapter
Direct Parallel
Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection
Intel(R) PRO/100 VE Network Connection – Packet Schedule Miniport
WAN Miniport (IP)
WAN Miniport (IP) Packet Scheduler Miniport
WAN Miniport (L2TP)
WAN MIniport (PPPOE
WAN Miniport (PPTP)

If I right click these and UNINSTALL (some will uninstall, others will not) and then reboot the computer, they reappear with the YELLOW EXCLAMATION and I still cannot connect.

I also clicked on VIEW – SHOW HIDDEN DEVICES and deleted any devices listed that had yellow exclamations. These have not reappeared on reinstall.

Lastly, I inserted the ORIGINAL DEVICE DRIVER disk that came with Gateway and reinstalled the two INTEL drivers listed above, but they still come up with the YELLOW EXCLAMATION. I have followed various threads online trying to fix it and nothing…..

ANY SUGGESTIONS???
