Network autologoff plus file autosave?

Hey IT pros – Does any one know of a reg tweak or software pkg that will autologoff idle users but save work in progress and gracefully exit running applications before logging them off?

This has to work in a mixed environ. of win95/98/NT/2000 systems, on an NT network.

The Automatic Logoff provision in the HIPAA security reg is creating this need. Thanks for any/all help.
