Network Configuration?

Could you please tell me some of the top Networking configurations? I currently have a Novell network, but am thinking of changing to a NT. But I would like to know if I should be looking at other options as well, for instance some kind of server with dummy terminls running programs off of the server etc… Any help would be appreciated.
